Kenley Collins releases her new album, Belle Black, today on Lanark Records. Her 60’s girl-group influences are immediate yet she brings a fresh approach instead of just rehashing the past. Her first single from the project, “Stop And Listen”, was released last December and was a sign of what was to follow. In addition to the Spector-esque style of the first single, you’ll hear influences of everyone from Etta James to Qwen Stefani but under the vintage umbrella she’s created complete with horns, handclaps and soaring background vocals.
Quentin Jones, a recent inductee into the Rockabilly Hall Of Fame, produced the project which continues a long list of great comeback and introduction albums with him behind the board including Robert Gordon, Linda Gail Lewis, Charlie Gracie and many more. The musical sensibility of Collins combined with Jones’ careful attention to getting the right feel for a song brings a breath of fresh air among the over-produced and soul-less projects being churned out today.
Kenley wrote or co-wrote 10 of the 12 songs on the album and recorded with live musicians further showcasing her talent. The 60’s influence is alive and well and this is one you’ll want to set on repeat!Read More

Their music has been used in many indie films. They have released six full albums and continue to record and play live shows.

If you like your rock & roll sweaty, loud, gutsy along with killer hooks, then the latest releases from Lanark Records are just what you’ve been craving. First up, The Sweet Things have been called “one of America’s greatest unsigned bands”. The members of the band bonded over their love of acts such as The Rolling Stones, The Faces, Johnny Thunders, etc. and have performed in other credible punk bands such as L.E.S. Stitches, The Sharp Lads, The Dimestore Haloes, The Dead Tricks, Stiletto, Mazard, and Tongue. Remember when rock & roll had swagger, attitude and a little dangerous? These guys revive that time with their latest Lanark Records single, “Love To Leave” as part of the label’s 52 Singles In 52 Weeks campaign and folks have already started taking notice! Steppin’ Out Magazine has named their song “Love To Leave” song of the week, gushing: “Charismatic rock band The Sweet Things is what your ears have been craving.” Indie tastemakers Faster And Louder enthuse: “The Sweet Things are a real treat for anyone who loves guitar-centric rock n' roll with a whiff of booze.” These touring veterans have already played BAM, The Lenox Lounge, Vans Warped Tour, The Grand Victory, Beast Of Bourbon, Bowery Electric, Saint Vitus, the Acheron, Webster Hall among others. Watch for more from The Sweet Things soon!
New in the Lanark singles series is Diamond Sands & The Glass Cutters and “My Baby Died”. Horns, a thumping melody and a lot of mystery surround this release. Little is really known about them and critics have wondered about how much truth is really in the folklore. Legend has it Diamond Sands was a dishwasher at The Pavilion where The Glass Cutters were scheduled to play. Diamond Sands filled in for their ailing lead singer one evening (supposedly the West Nile Virus…or maybe it was East) and it just so happenedRead More
Lanark Records continues with new singles in their critically acclaimed series, “52 Singles In 52 Weeks”, with a batch of great and varied tunes after taking a short break for South By Southwest preparation. We never said the 52 weeks would be in a row, now did we?! April 1st was no “April Fools Day” around the Lanark offices as we released another track from the great Chan Romero. “Thrill Me So Much” is a vintage track from the 50’s but seldom heard. Coming up on April 8th is a great rocker from George Royale that is guaranteed to do exactly what the title says, “Rock Your Socks Off Susan”! Still to come in the series are singles from Soul Survivors (“Expressway To Your Heart”), Slim Kings, Flamin’ Dick and the Hot Rods, Stu Huggens and more!
South By Southwest (SXSW) proved to be a wild and rockin’ time in Austin, TX for a couple of our acts. Danny B. Harvey & Annie Marie Lewis were all over the place playing at least 13 sets backing up Linda Gail Lewis, BP Fallon and Dave Insley. Linda Gail Lewis rocked a packed house at the Continental Club during her SXSW showcase. She also performed live on the air during one of Mojo Nixon’s shifts at SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country as well as during Mojo’s Pancake Breakfast leaving listeners and radio personnel with their jaws dropped and hungry for more!
Speaking of Linda Gail Lewis, she was also recently featured in the latest issue of Goldmine Magazine which is their official Record Store Day issue (with Ozzy Osbourne on the cover). Pick up a copy today!

Lanark Records is proud to have a couple of our own there representing their latest projects. Linda Gail Lewis will be busy around Austin promoting her latest release, Hard Rockin’ Woman, and showcasing why she is known as the “Queen Of The Pumpin’ Piano” at these events:

-Mojo Nixon’s Pancake Breakfast- Saturday, March 19th 2:45pm (Continental Club)
-SXSW Showcase- Saturday, March 19th 11pm (Continental Club)
Danny B. Harvey & Annie Marie Lewis have a packed schedule as well as they not only promote their brand new release, Barbwire Heart, but also lend their talents to several artists during the week.
MOJO Magazine recently lauded Linda Gail Lewis with a 4-star review for her latest, Hard Rockin’ Woman on Lanark Records. They call the record “explosive” and that it captures her “pumping the piano on a series of boogies in the style of her more famous brother Jerry Lee.” They even say while nobody plays piano like Jerry Lee, she gets very close especially on the title track and a cover of Jerry’s “Rockin’ My Life Away”. This review is on the heels of a couple of great radio appearances in Austin, TX with both SiriusXM’s Dallas Wayne and on KOOP. Some duet partnerships are so classic that it’s difficult to think of one without the other…Johnny Cash & June Carter Cash, George Jones & Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton & Porter Wagoner and the list goes on. Husband and wife Danny B. Harvey and Annie Marie Lewis are no strangers to the music business. Danny is one of the premier rockabilly and roots guitarists of our generation having played with Head Cat (featuring the late, great Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead and Slim Jim Phantom of The Stray Cats), Rockats, 69 Cats, Devil’s Daughters and many more including producing and/or playing with Wanda Jackson, Nancy Sinatra, Rosie Flores, Raul Malo, etc. Annie Marie Lewis is the niece of Jerry Lee Lewis and has certainly inherited the family talent. She toured for years with mom, Linda Gail Lewis, and still does shows with her when the schedule allows. Combined,
Danny & Annie have been touring all over the world and playing large stages as well as small, intimate venues while leaving each audience mesmerized by their talents. Danny B. Harvey & Annie Marie Lewis are proud to release their latest project, Barbwire Heart on Lanark Record February 26th. Annie’s powerful and sultry vocals combined with Danny’s gritty guitar presence make for a release you can’t put down. The choice of covers range from Crazy Cavan’s “My Little Sister’s Gotta Motorbike”, Robert Johnson’s “Crossroads”, Little Richard’s “Good Golly Miss Molly” and others as well as some Harvey originals such as “Rock Little Baby”, “Get So Excited” and the rollicking instrumental, “Nitro”.Read More
"Movin’ and a-groovin’” is a line Linda Gail Lewis sings in “Rockin’ My Life Away”. One might believe she rocks as though her life depends on it. Linda Gail lives in a constant state of movin’ and groovin’ with the constant worldwide touring and now movin’ up the charts! After already topping the AirPlay Direct Rock radio download chart at #1 in September, she was in the Top 5 “Most Added” for the Americana Music Association’s radio chart 2 weeks in a row before the charts closed in mid-December. She also went from #64 to #40 to now #22 on the Roots 66 Airplay Chart. Check out the full radio chart: http://thealternateroot.com/index.php?option=com_roots&view=chart&Itemid=246

~~Eddie Angel’s instrumental is the latest in Lanark Records’ 52 Singles In 52 Weeks campaign
Eddie Angel’s masterful instrumental of “Devil Or Angel” is the latest in the critically acclaimed new series from Lanark Records, “52 Singles In 52 Weeks”. Angel is perhaps best known for leading the masked Grammy-nominated instrumental group, Los Straitjackets, as well as the loud rockin’ Planet Rockers among other solo endeavors. He is constantly touring and winning over fans worldwide. He’s worked with some of the greats: Robert Gordon, Link Wray, Ronnie Dawson, Deke Dickerson, Th’ Legendary Shack Shakers and so many more. One listen to this instrumental and you’ll understand why he’s one of the top guitarists in all of rock & roll!
While being a member of the Lewis family may open doors from time to time, the pressure to deliver is that much greater. Linda Gail Lewis has proven she’s a force to be reckoned with every time she’s graced the stage and leaves the crowd exhausted and begging for more. Only the 88 piano keys are happy the performance is over after the fiery workout they are put through during the set. Her brother’s (Jerry Lee Lewis) influence is unmistakable but she has carved out her own niche over the years also citing artists like Wanda Jackson and others as an influence. In addition to her own stellar solo projects, she released a critically acclaimed project with Van Morrison in 2000. In February this year, she made the journey to Lancaster, PA with her now son-in-law Danny B. Harvey and daughter Annie Marie Lewis for 3 intense days of recording her first project for Lanark Records with Quentin Jones handling the producer duties. QuentinRead More

Project Runway’s Kenley Collins, Danny B. Harvey with Annie Marie Lewis and Dibbs Preston & The Detonators to release new albums on Lanark Records!
Lanark Records is proud to announce 3 new exciting projects in the works to add to their growing roster of roots based projects.
Coming early 2016 is the first release from Kenley Collins. Kenley has been known for her 40’s inspired clothes during her time on the hit Bravo and Lifetime reality series, Project Runway. Her vintage sensibilities don’t end with her fashion designs as it also spills over into her music. Expect to hear a blend of that great pop, soul, blues, jazz, rockabilly of the 60’s girl-group sounds. She wanted to capture the spirit of that era and felt like Lanark was the place to keep that sound alive. More news once she hits the studio this early this fall.
Speaking of fall, guitarist Danny B. Harvey teams up with his wife, Annie Marie Lewis, on a project titled, Barbwire Heart. Danny is one of the genre’s premier guitarists and producers having performed with his own bands (Rockats, Head Cat, Devil’s Daughters, 69 Cats, etc.) as well as solo endeavors and working alongside artists such as Wanda Jackson, Nancy Sinatra and many others.
Annie Marie Lewis is the daughter of another Lanark Records artist, Linda Gail Lewis and they niece of Jerry Lee Lewis. Annie released a Christmas project last year with Danny producing and has been touring all over the world for many years and making a name for her as the new generation of the Lewis family! Their chemistry is evident from the moment you hear them together with Danny’s rumbling guitar and her bluesy, fiery vocals. The great recording couples of the past (Johnny & June, George & Tammy, Dolly & Porter, Conway & Loretta, etc.) are about to get another couple added to their hall of fame!
This August will also see Dibbs Preston & the Detonators hitting the Lanark studio for a new project on the way. Dibbs is best known as the thrilling lead singer for the legendary rockabilly group, The Rockats. With The Detonators, Dibbs also masterfully handles guitar duties as he did in the Levi & The Rockats days. Dibbs Preston & the Detonators have been turning heads in the Pennsylvania area for years as well as opening up for artists such as the Brian Setzer Orchestra. Expect energetic and authentic roots tunes from someone that has spent a lifetime singing them!Read More

Rockabilly and Roots are often called "throwback" or "vintage" genres. However, these styles have been consistent and still remain while others have come and gone. Even the music industry has seemed to have gone full circle in being "single" focused over always doing full albums. This of course is a nod to the early rock & roll days of doing a series of singles on artists before the idea of a long playing album was introduced. Coming later this summer, Lanark Records is unveiling their "52 Singles in 52 weeks" concept that not only hearkens back to days such as Sun Records doing singles on a multitude of artists but also joining new technology where these will be digital only .
First up in the series is the label's popular and hard-hitting band, The Reach Around Rodeo Clowns. After grabbing the attention of Stephen King last fall with their "King Of The Slot Car Track" song and video and continued touring, the band is ready to unleash their cover of the Buzz & The Flyers track, "Boomerang". Along with long time members Quentin Jones on guitar and Wendell Jones on vocals, it features musicians Dave Roe (Johnny Cash, John Mellencamp, Dwight Yoakam) on bass and Liberty DeVitto (Billy Joel, Carly Simon, Meatloaf) on drums.
Future singles will not only feature current artists on the label, but special one-off deals with a variety of artists from outside as well.Read More

Lanark Records Releases Score Big On Radio
If you live in an area that has been hit hard this winter with snow and ice, it may have given you some unexpected free time. It gave us a moment to reflect on the growth at radio airplay for the Lanark artists in 2014.
In particular, response has been and continues to be strong for Robert Gordon and the Reach Around Rodeo Clowns. It's easy for me to get wrapped up in what I'm doing and being on the phone most of the day. It was vital for me to head west in 2014 to host the Lanark Records stage during Viva Las Vegas. It also allowed me to witness the excitement first hand to a wildly enthusiastic crowd and that was a highlight of the year for me.
Linda Gail Lewis hit Lanark’s studio ( February 19 - 22, 2015) last week with a team of top musicians and recorded 12 new tracks for her new album “Hard Rocking Woman” which will be release later this year on Lanark Records. This team was headed by producer Quentin Jones, who also played bass and guitar, and featured Danny B Harvey on guitars and bass, Blair King on drums and Lewis’s daughter Annie Lewis sing harmonies.
All but 3 of the 12 tracks were written by Lewis, Jones or Harvey, were recorded mostly live, all tracks without the aid of “auto-tune” or other digital trickery. These five musicians set up in Lanark’s Lancaster Pa studio and played the songs from beginning to end in complete takes, only occasionally overdubbing an extra guitar part or backing vocal.
The Reach Around Rodeo Clowns latest album on Lanark Records, “Rockabilly Deluxe”, continues to gain national reviews from some of the industry’s most respected magazines and web sites. No Depression, a magazine and web site that is considered to be one of the leading authorities on roots music, has just published a review on Rockabilly Deluxe by D.C.Larsons. Larson reports: “The Reach Around Rodeo Clowns reassure me that rockabilly in the 21st century is as engaging, explosive, and biologically autonomous as when a sideburned, teenaged electric company truck driver first cut loose at 209 Union”

In on of our last blogs we told you how the famed author Stephen King recently tweeted about Lanark’s own Reach Around Rodeo Clowns video for their new song “King of the Slot Car Track” from the newest album “Rockabilly Deluxe. Last week, the Portland Press Herald did a story about what kind of art Stephen King appreciates and they featured an interview with the Clown’s guitarist Quentin Jones. The story tells how King found the Clowns and how “he likes talking about young writers and talented artists. He likes the fact that if he recommends a book by a lesser-known but talented writer, people might go out and buy the book. ‘I get enthusiastic about a lot of stuff. So when I watch or read stuff I like, I just wanna tweet about it,” King said.”

Robert Gordon’s new Lanark release continues to receive stellar reviews. “I’m Coming Home” has just been reviewed by No Depression which calls the album “a strapping reaffirmation of supremacy” and goes on to say “Robert is the star of this show. He can blast a lyric or swell majestically to whatever heights are demanded. Indeed, to hear his confidence-to-kill delivery and deep force-of-nature baritone, it's as if the last few decades never happened -- except that they imprinted his voice with substance gained only by good and bad living.”

Check out this great quote about Robert Gordon’s new album “I’m Coming Home” from Meg Griffin at The Loft/ Sirius XM....
To stay the course takes courage in Rock N Roll. Gimmicks come and go, but the real root foundation is what holds up. So if the musical ground beneath your feet has felt loose of late, stand on something solid, rockin', authentic and determined. Robert Gordon's "I'm Coming Home" not only celebrates that great Johnny Horton song, but the entire album is a 101 in the ABCs of Rockabilly. Turn it up!

Tweed and the Sugardaddies are Rockabilly Troubadours. The band is based out of central New Jersey, and has been playing the original circuit for ten years. Screamin’ Rebel Angels
Lanark Records is about to release the fiercest, wildest example of untamed Rock ‘n Roll that is poised to resurrect the raw, primitive passions which first electrified audiences at the genres inception. After pounding the pavement of the gritty jungle of NYC, Lanark Records discovered a feral fuchsia-tressed bombshell ricocheting around stage with a Gretsch Guitar in hand, and satin and gravel in her voice, as part of the rockin’est foursome that Rock ‘n Roll Revival needs right now....Join us in welcoming Screamin’ Rebel Angels to the Lanark Records roster of stars!

Rockabilly is more than just a musical style, it’s a lifestyle. The level to which someone expresses this varies greatly. Viva Las Vegas is an annual event where like-minded people come together to express their love of this lifestyle and of course the music. I immediately fell in love with the music from a very young age upon hearing my mom’s Elvis records. Any allowance money I obtained quickly went to discovering more of this music at the monthly flea markets in Louisville, KY. Elvis opened the door for me to discover Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Dion, Chuck Berry, Johnny & Dorsey Burnette and so many more. Seeing the Buddy Holly Story as a 9 year old sealed the deal for me. While the story was lacking in historical facts, it importantly helped continue my journey to discovering rockabilly, early rock, blues, etc. As an adult in my mid-40’s, the passion is as strong as ever. I do a rockabilly/blues/roots site (www.rockabillynblues.com) as well as host a podcast extension of the site- The Rockabilly N Blues Radio Hour which is available for free on iTunes among other places. I bring up all of this because it’s this passion that connected with me to the fine folks at Lanark Records who asked me to emcee their stage at the Car Show during Viva Las Vegas. Lanark professes to seek out artists that major labels would be scared to sign for fear of not knowing what to do with them. That Rockabilly/Roots lifestyle I talked about is key for fueling a passion and to Lanark it’s a definitely a way of life. Corporate, commercial music is of little interest to them and is exactly why I was drawn to their approach.

Last week was an historical event at the world famous rockabilly bar "The Blue Comet" in Glenside, PA.
Both The Rockats and The Reach Around Rodeo Clowns are two of the hottest rocking bands around played together on the same bill.
The night was sweaty, sticky and full of bopping and jiving bodies. Both bands tore the roof off a packed house that was followed by a super jam. Everyone had such a blast, and the club couldn't even get the crowd to leave at closing time!!!!
"Yes, it was standing room only and the largest crowd in years at the Blue Comet, which is cool venue just outside of Philly, Pa. Just about anyone who is anyone in the roots/rockabilly music has played there, from J. D. McPherson to Brian Setzer".
- Smutty Smiff (Rockats)
The Clowns kicked off the night with a rousing set the included fan favorites and selections from their new number one album "Rockabilly Deluxe". This was followed up by a fantastic hour and a half set from The Rockats.
Afterwards both bands did a set of covers jamming together and bring up a few people from the crowd to sing!
People are still talking about this show! Come out to see The Rockats before the year us over!

Lanark Entertainment has started recordings on a new Robert Gordon CD that brings you back to the rockabilly recordings he made with Private Stock/RCA in the late seventies. Fans of rock and rockabilly will be very happy to hear Robert's voice never sounding better and his band never rocking harder. Robert was backed by long time Bob Dylan session bass player Rob Stoner, who's bass lines grace Don McLean's American Pie recording and has played with Bruce Springsteen on stage and in the studio. Stoner locked in with drummers David Uosikkinen (The Hooters) and Dave Ferrara (Peter Noone and the Reach Around Rodeo Clowns), while Quentin Jones (Reach Around Rodeo Clowns, The Rockats, Charlie Gracie) laid down some great riffs on Guitar.Read More

When I asked how Quentin Jones, from the Reach Around Rodeo Clowns how he got the recording and producing bug, he told me this story.
Paul McCartney’s first solo album was the album that showed me I could write, and release music. I will never forget my brother Bruce buying that album and telling me it was Paul’s new solo album. Me, only being 9, asked Bruce, what is a solo record? I was not sure if I liked the idea of a Beatle putting out an album without the others. Bruce told me that Paul recorded the album at his home, and that made my world come apart.” What!!!! Record it at home” ? !!?
Up to this point I thought that music was only recorded in big studios with guys in white lab coats turning knobs. You had a better chance of drinking Tang on the moon then you did ever recording music.Read More

The Jones brothers from the Reach Around Rodeo Clowns grew up wild, crazy and out of control! Their mother was a singing star that showed horses in the 1940s up to the 1960s. Their father was an old Kentucky horse trainer that sang the country blues on his Framus folk guitar and was a Korean War hero. Wendell, (vocals) and Quentin, (guitar) along with their late brother Bruce, grew up riding, training, showing and racing horses all over the USA. They got in loads of trouble, ended many fights, and ran with everyone from captains of industry to the lowest of souls.

King Creole Review
I’d like to start out by saying that this is my favorite Elvis movie. If you’ve ever been over my house, I’m sure I’ve made you watch it. Let’s take a look at the cast: Elvis Presley, Walter Matthau, Carolyn Jones, Vic Morrow, and Delores Hart.
Based on the book ”A Stone for Danny Fisher” KING CREOLE tells the story of teenage delinquent Danny Fisher, played by Elvis, who drops out of school and finds himself working in the grimy New Orleans night life scene. Danny encounters 2 women along his path. One is aging show girl and former singer Ronnie, played by Carolyn Jones, and the other is "the girl next door" Nellie, played by Delores Heart. While hustling as a bar back, he soon lands a job as the main act of a dying club called THE KING CREOLE. His nightly performances become such a success that he saves the club and begins to make good money. There is a catch to his new found fortune and fame. As well as the frowned upon lifestyle from his family, he is now in the debt of a hardened criminal gangster Maxie Dean, played by Walter Matthau. While this is not AS typical as some of the other Elvis films because of the dark mood, KING CREOLE still has its random musical and vocal ballots throughout the movie. As far as Elvis films go, I give it 5 out of 5 stars!Read More
